Subject:   FIM: SAS Notes for 22Feb2002 - for the MVS - TCP/IP heads

For Inquiring Minds (FIM):

SN-003852 Directives in /etc/resolv.conf can cause various problems with SAS System components that communicate via TCP/IP

The /etc/resolv.conf resolver file under HFS has historically contained directives identical to those contained in the /etc/resolv.conf file under a UNIX operating system. IBM is now instructing customers to copy the directives in the MVS TCPIP.DATA file to the /etc/resolv.conf file under HFS.

If the /etc/resolv.conf file contains any of the directives previously exclusive to the TCPIP.DATA file, the SAS environment may fail to initialize, hostname resolution may fail, or other unpredictable results may occur when establishing communication between the SAS System and TCP/IP.

The following are directives that previously were exclusive to the TCPIP.DATA file:

TCPPIPJOBNAME HOSTNAME DOMAINORIGIN NSINTERADDR /* You can have more than one of these */ NSPORTADDR RESOLVEVIA RESOLVERTIMEOUT RESOLVERUDPRETRIES DATASETPREFIX

The problems arise if any of the above directives exist in the /etc/resolv.conf file OR you have the etc_resolv_conf environment variable pointing to a file with the above directives.

To correct the problem, apply the SAS/C zap to your version of the SAS/C transient library.

This zap applies to the 6.50C version of the SAS/C transient library:
