Subject: Importing CSV files to SAS: are default formats assigned?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hello,

I have inherited a dataset in two versions. One is a SAS dataset with a separate formats catalog (i.e. user defined formats). The other is 'supposedly' the SAME dataset but is a CSV file.

I'd like to simply import the CSV file into SAS, but my question is: when importing the CSV using import wizard, does SAS automatically assign default formats or would the user-defined formats already be in the CSV file? would I somehow have to put the user-defined formats into my CSV file some other way?

Thanks!

Kathie
