No rarities today, nothing new for the state or year list, but here's some highlights from the Brunswick today. After searching in vain for the Limpkins with a fellow at the park on the Altamaha, I figured I'd get my money's worth from the area. Low notes, no Limpkins, no Sharp-tailed sparrows (jinxed on these!!), no Henslow's Sparrows. However I did have an experience today that may not happen again for a long time. Highlights:
Black Scoter - 200+ (Jekyll north)
Lesser Scaup - 2 (Jekyll north)
Black Rail - not heard...SAW!! This bird was in the grass on the opposite side of the road from where the other was calling near the gate at Andrew's Island. I was standing in the grass close to the water as the tide was coming in. Something caught my eye, I saw it about 20 feet away step out of the grass near the water, then turn and disappear back into the green wall of blades. WOW
M. Godwit - 3 (Jekyll south)
Bonaparte's Gull - 1 (Jekyll south)
G. Black-backed Gull - 2 (Jekyll south)
L. Black-backed Gull - 1 (Jekyll south)
Tree Swallow - 1 leucistic (about 80% albino) individual amongst the swarms
Le Conte's Sparrow - 1 (Paulk's Pasture)
Grasshopper Sparrow - 1 (Paulk's Pasture)
