Check if you have a file called profile.sas7bcat.lck in ~/sasuser.800/. If you do, move it to something like profile.sas7bcat.save_after_crash and run SAS again.

The same applies for regstry.sas7bitm.

And how on earth did HP-UX "crash" which using SAS V8 DMS???
