Well, Jack, the way that I read it we would be invited to post any number of off-topic threads. You could talk about the great car that you rented when you went to SUGI. You could spiral off in any direction that you wanted to. Wouldn't have to be even tangentially related to SAS.

Let's nip this in the bud right now. SAS-L is a terrific forum for getting high quality dialogue about the SAS system along with some statistical advice. I have yet to see another discussion group with such consistently high standards. Not to say that there are no others, but SAS-L is right up there among the best.

If the original poster wants to know the personalities of the SAS-L posters, then attend the SUGI SAS-L BOF. Or present something at a regional (and later national) SUG meeting. The regional meetings are good because they are smaller. Many of the SAS-L posters participate in the regional SUGs. Participate in the SAS-L forum on a regular basis. You will get to know something of the personalities of the regular contributors. When you really get to know the interests of others on this list, then take your communications off-list (if the other party is willing). But please, please, PLEASE do not fragment such a helpful forum as SAS-L.

Dale
