Subject: Re: Accessing SAS datasets from non-SAS apps using SAS Share

Dan,

We here at The Hartford are doing just that. We have a number of SAS Datasets created on our OpenVMS environment. Then we download them to our Windows NT Server where we have SAS Share. From there, our users can access these SAS Datasets via MS Excel, Access or any other such tool which supports ODBC.

We were doing this with Version 6.12 and have recently started to use Version 8.1 on our Windows NT box without any hitches. Setting this up for each user is a bit complicated for the average user but it is doable and does work.
