Hi David,

Congratulations on your two new additions to your family!!! Hope mother and girls are doing well. They are precious and will grow up faster then you will realize.

As such, I suggest you pass on building a SAS-L searchable archive as it will probably consume a great deal of time in the beginning, as well as time to maintain it as it grows.

I use the archive features at http://www.listserv.uga.edu/archives/sas-l.htm which is available via the web and does most what I would like for now.

Another big issue is building a fast, reliable, index that would be meaningful to EVERYONE when they wish to perform a search on key words. I would find creating such an index to be time consuming and most likely not as complete as you first thought.

And finally, if you could not generate any revenue from such a project, it would be a WHITE ELEPHANT, a constant thorn in your side, and a probable flaw in your reputation if you could not meet the demands of ALL SAS-Lers.

It is a wonderful jesture on your part but I think you would be biting off more than you could chew and handle without much of any rewards, with a lot of grief as the beast becomes unmanageable.

I think such an undertaking best belongs to the Listserv, SAS Institute, or some other business entity who can support such a task. Think about it - ALOT!

Why did Deja.com give up their facility to make these newsforums available via the WEB? Most likely it was not profitable and consumed a good deal of staffing resources as well as machine capacity.

Instead, be good to yourself, your wife and your precious kids! Spend more time with them while they are young, growing, and learning to know their world! You will regret it later if you do not it now - you can not turn back the hand of time when you wish you could!

No one would criticize you for not doing this, but MANY would complain if what you did - did not meet their expectations.

Best Wishes and regards, Charles Patridge Email: Charles_S_Patridge Web: http://www.sconsig.com

PS, believe it or not, I get complaints about what I have and do not have on my website - and this is totally free to visitors with much of the cost being covered by my personal resources and time. Go figure???
