Thanks for your answer !
You're absolutely right that many of the estimates are needing a
reassessment. Some estimates are correcting former estimates by the same
team and the authors themself admit that "accurate estimates exist only for
a few species that have been the subject of detailed investigation, and the
likely accuracy of most estimates is considered poor or low". The data in
the study are only the best that can be provided according to actual
knowledge and the best thing would be that the publication of the report
leads to critical discussions and an improvement of the knowledge of the
populations.
Those who are interested by the subject should see the complete
publication. There is by far more in it than in the abstract which has been
posted.
It's very cold in the North now : minus 30'C with the chill factor. And
snow everywhere. It's like a dream to see those green leaves on bird photos
recently taken in your area, for which URL have been provided on your
lists. But we have Snowy Owls, Hawk Owls, Boreal Owls, Snow Buntings...
