I know this isn't the place to ask Perl questions, but my problem is BACK (this is like a bad dream). The perl program (I have posted it to http://www.internext-inc.com/sspcgi.txt) sometimes bombs, sometimes doesn't, but something strange is really going on. I have the same build of Perl and Apache on another server and I have SSP running on several other setups (MS IIS, etc.) and I have never seen this problem. Here is what I get:

Even though Apache is running as a service, sometimes when the ssp.cgi script executes using Perl 522 from ActiveState, I get several message boxes that say: perl.exe - DLL Initialization Failed

Initialization of the dynamic link library C:\WINNT\system32\KERNEL32.dll failed. The process is terminating abnormally.

This box pops up even when not logged into the server! If I click OK three times, the program actually does finishe executing, but SAS sends back a message compalining that the user did not specify a file (somehow the Perl socket connection to SAS is not working?).

I am about to go to the Perl groups, but if you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears.

Thanks, David

[private email since this is OT for SAS-L]

David, I still consider ActiveState Perl 5.6 to be in beta. Others feel differently, I'm sure. But for my apps I have kept to build 522/523 which is 5.5 [it was known as 5.005 at the time, but there are new rules for version numbers in Perl].

Good luck with the system, David -- David Cassell, OAO Corp. Cassell.David@epa.gov Senior computing specialist mathematical statistician
