Long Beach is about half-way between LAX and Orange County (John Wayne) airport. When traffic is light, you can drive to Long Beach from either in about 20 minutes. When traffic is heavy (morning or late afternoon), it might take an hour from either. Of all the choices, if you cannot get a flight into Long Beach, either LAX or Orange County will be the best choices. Orange County is probably a better and slightly larger airport than Long Beach, but much smaller than LAX. I dislike LAX because of the size and congestion in the area. Orange County is much easier and more comfortable. The only downside I have found with Orange County is that many airlines do not fly direct into Orange County. If you want to avoid connecting flights, then you might need to fly into LAX. Flying into LAX, getting out, and getting ground transportation to Long Beach probably won't be too bad. Getting back to LAX to get home will probably be worse than getting in.

It's not that I can't use an atlas, just that not even Encarta online seem to provide traffic density, route speed, bus route and taxi fare maps in them!

SAS indicate AA will fly into Burbank, Ontario and San Diego with discounted fares for SUGI attendees.

A little web site searching indicate American West get to Long beach from many places, but not San Francisco it seems.

One of the airlines seem to use san Jose as an alternative, but (with all apologies to Mr Bacharach, I don't know the way...)

United use LAX as a proxy for Long Beach, and yet a certain session co- ordinator at SUGI 25 was very clear about the desirability of flying in direct!

So, do I ignore her imperative at my peril, and if so, which airports might I consider as a reasonable destination.
