Dear Maurizio,

Thank you for your kind words concerning Vita Marina. As you have seen, the initial "news" as brought by Dr. Kevin Lamprell did not yield that many reactions, I guess because most of the subscribers to the list are Americans, not familiar with Vita Marina. And that is exactly the main point: the magazine did not have enough subscribers, despite all efforts made by the board of the Biologia Maritima Foundation. This is explained in the forthcoming issue of Spirula (which has been mailed yesterday, along with Vita Marina 47(3)) to the subscribers. The board of the foundation, and the editorial staff of thew magazine discussed the problems in some sessions, and could only reach the one and sad conclusion. For a healthy financial situation we need al least another 150 subscribers. In the past few years we didn't succeed in getting them, and I can't see why is should suddenly change now. Very kindly, Ms. Angoiy offered her help, but at this point I don't see how we can cope with everything.

Sincerely, Gijs C. Kronenberg member editorial staff Vita Marina ---------- Van: Maurizio A. Perini <mperini@WITCOM.COM> Aan: CONCH-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU Onderwerp: Vita Marina Datum: maandag 25 december 2000 19:22

Christmas 2000, 06:56 pm

Dear Friends,

I could not believe to my eyes reading the really bad news about Vita Marina. This is the second gorgeous magazine we lose after World Shells. Is it maybe a sign that our very intersting hobby (?) is going towards a dark time ? Sincerely I'm very angry due to my inability to change the things. I think that Vita Marina deserves our efforts to be saved. How many do folks among you know this magazine ? I would like to hear the Editor, Mr. Faber, on this list telling us if we can make something in order to save the magazine.

Marry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all.

Maurizio.

-----Messaggio originale----- Da: Kev Lamprell [SMTP:K.Lamprell@UQ.NET.AU] Inviato: giovedì 21 dicembre 2000 22.48 A: CONCH-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU Oggetto: Vita Marina

Hi everybody, I have just been advised that Vita Marina is going out of publication after March 2001 due to a lack of subscribers and helpers for its production. It seems a shame that such an excellent journal must cease production, the beautiful plates and excellent layout has always marked this journal as one of the worlds best. I think we should congratulate those responsible for its past editions and express our regrets at its cessation.

Kev
