Subject: Abbott's Bridge Unit CRNRA LeConte's Sparrow, Merlin...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
GA Birders,
On the way home from work I stopped by the Abbott's Bridge Unit of the CRNRA
and met Earl Horn who wanted to find the White-crowned Sparrow that has been
frequenting there. Actually we ended up birding the edge of the CRNRA and
around the edges of the soccer fields. We found the juvenile White-crowned
Sparrow along the drainage ditch that runs parallel to the drive into the
soccer fields as well as one of the Vesper Sparrows. We were then treated
to a Merlin that cruised by us just a few feet off the ground across the
soccer fields, obviously it knows about all the birds too! Then on the far
south side of the soccer fields in the drainage ditch we flushed a real
buffy looking small bird that perched up for us to see that it was a
LeConte's Sparrow. He sat up on a bramble and looked at us for quite awhile
just out of range of Earl's camera and then dropped back into the tall
grass. Here are the highlights for this afternoon:
Merlin (1)
Killdeer (1)
Mourning Dove (25)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (5)
Palm Warbler (2)
Common Yellowthroat (1)
Summer Tanager (1) (female)
