Subject: OFF-TOPIC: what do you call the letters after a person's name?

Hi All:
Sorry for *quick* OT post, but Don's post reminded me of a long-term question of mine:
What's the formal name for the letters (e.g., Ph.D., B.Sc, etc..) after a person's name?
Note: I'm not asking what they mean (i.e., Ph.D. = Doctorate of Philosphy, MA = Masters in Arts, MS = Mastersin Science, etc.) but the *term* for these letters.
It's an old *trivia* question in my family.
Just like "What was the name of the turtle-character in the old Mr. Wizard cartoon show (ya know: twizzle twazzle, twizzle, twome, time for this one to come home ...)?" <g>
TIA for any help and private posts.
