LS,
When using the File-menu Export wizard in v8 (Win95) to
dump a SAS data set into an Excel 97 or 2000 spreadsheet,
it seems that single quotes are inserted before every
character variable. Consider e.g. a $ 20 variable TITLE
having values as follows:
OBS TITLE
1 Emphyrio
2 Chateau d'If
3 Throy
After exporting, this shows up in the resulting Excel 97
file as a column with the cells containing strings
'title
'Emphyrio
'Chateaud'If
'Throy
These quotes are not visible in the cells themselves, but
when one is selected, the Excel command line (or whatever
it is called) shows that they are there.
I find this quite annoying. Using the v6.12 Export wizard
with the same data set produces the expected output, i.e.
without leading quotes added.
Searching the online help proved a fruitless exercise. Has
somebody else noticed this behaviour? Any suggestions on
how to turn off this quote inserting feature?
Cheers,
Koen.
