Many UGA students began another Summer Session today in Athens. Many other students are studying abroad in such places as France, Poland, Romania and Austria.

NEW UGA FOUNDATION TRUSTEES ELECTED: New members have been elected as advisory and managing trustees of the UGA Foundation at the board's recent spring meeting. Seven people were elected as managing trustees and four were named new advisory trustees. http://www.uga.edu/columns/current/front4.html

UGA CONFERENCE BRINGS GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND HIGHER EDUACTION LEADERS TOGETHER: Government officials and higher education leaders from 17 states gathered at UGA recently for a two-day meeting sponsored by UGA's Institute of Higher Education to discuss accountability and financial support for higher education. A recap of the conference, newspaper coverage and the text of Zell Miller's keynote address is available on the UGA Today Web site. http://www.uga.edu/news

THREE UGA PROJECTS WIN INTERNATIONAL AWARDS The "UGA Today" Web site, Columns and the university's booklet describing the university's physical master plan were winners in this year's national awards competition sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. http://www.uga.edu/columns/current/campnews3.html

UGA ALUMNUS A CAST MEMBER ON MTV'S "THE REAL WORLD": Danny Roberts, a native of Rockmort, Ga., will be a cast member in MTV's next installment of "The Real World." Roberts, who received a bachelor's degree in French in 1999, participated in the show filmed earlier this year in New Orleans. The program premieres on Monday, June 13 at 10 p.m. and will air regularly on Tuesday evenings in that same time slot. http://entertainment.msn.com/tv/gist/feature3.asp

UGA NAMES NINE HOULE SCHOLARS : Nine Cyril O. Houle Scholars, representing three regions of the world, will receive financial awards of up to $40,000 each over the next two years in support of their research in adult and continuing education. UGA ALUMNUS, CHAIRMAN OF EZGOV.COM IS TERRY THIRD THURSDAY ATLANTA SPEAKER: Bryan Mundy, chairman and co-founder of ezgov.com, will be the featured speaker at the next "Terry Third Thursday" program in Atlanta on Thursday, June 15 at the UGA Alumni Club in the Atlanta Financial Center. Mundy, who earned his MBA degree from the Terry College of Business in 1995, will discuss the start-up of ezgov.com and his expectations for the future of e-commerce and the Internet. http://www.uga.edu/news/news.bureau/releases/releases2K/mundy.html

"ORDERING BRIDES ON THE WEB: OLD BUSINESS, NEW SOURCE" Julie Checkoway, director of UGA's Creative Writing Program, has authored an article on the topic of mail-order bride services moving to the Internet. "HELP IN FIELDS SOUGHT ON WEB PAGES" Stuart Pocknee, graduate student at UGA, is quoted in an Associated Press story about farmers increasingly using the Internet for agriculture-related information that can help increase productivity and profits.
