Version 8 for the Mac has been mentioned. What was mentioned is that it's not going to happen.

There was not sufficient demand to pay for the development costs.

It would be interesting to know how many licenses SAS Institute has sold for various platforms. Barrett Joyner mentioned at the Futures Forum that in some past release they sold 1 (one) license for PC-VM/CMS. "The only thing worse than selling no licenses is selling one license."

In all the discussion about implementing version 8, as far as I can tell there has been no mention of plans to bring it to the Mac. Has anyone heard of any such plans? I'm still waiting for our in-house sas guy to send me the 6.12 version I ordered last month, and he's allowed the version on the mainframe to expire, so I've got time to contemplate the future. When I'll finish the analysis that has to be done by Friday is another question.
