At ZBI, we use SAS to generate the numbers and text in the table but actually generate the tables entirely in word publishing software without having to program them in SAS. The advantages are very little programming, easy revision and reuse of tables, and better table quality.

I've posted to this list recently about how we do it so I'll skip the details here. We're giving papers on the technique at PharmaSUG in May and have copies of the papers on the publications page of our web site http://www.zbi.net/NewFiles/Presentations.html
