Subject: raptors at Leconte Woodmanston
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

A quick note about the Swallow-tailed Kites and dark morph Red-tailed Hawk seen yesterday at Leconte Woodmanston: Leconte seems to be a good place to see Swallow-tails: Gail Whalen (the manager there)has seen them on a regular basis, and yesterday we saw as many as four at one time. With regard to the dark-morph Red-tail: dark phases are more common in the western U.S. and I don't know how common they are here in the east, but I haven't seen too many, so it was a real treat to see one yesterday. Two of us saw it. It had the "red-tail silhouette" and luckily, it began vocalizing, which erased any doubt of identification.
